Dalia - Unique Porcelain Dildo 101

March 01, 2017

Everything you need to know about the Dalia, our unique porcelain dildo, which we affectionately call the Intimate Explorer. Here are the 6 questions that are most frequently asked!

  1. How do you use it?

When we participate in fairs, we receive a lot of glances and the famous question: is that what I think it is? YES, it is a porcelain dildo! Followed by the question: so how do you use it? Our Dalia can fulfill multiple functions, first of all, one of its ends has been designed with the aim of allowing you to easily apply pressure on your G spot to stimulate it and to help you reach orgasm. (Learn more about the amazing female orgasm!) The curved shape of the Dalia allows you to explore your body, to reach this "mythical" spot and can also be used to stimulate your clitoris. (Read what others think of the Dalia!)
The Dalia is a sex toy you can enjoy alone, but it can also be used with a partner. (We do recommend to use it alone the first time to discover what kind of pressure you prefer.)  Plus it is compatible with any kind of lubricants! (What you need to know about lubricants.)

The other end of the Dalia has been designed to help you with your Kegel exercises (pelvic floor muscles). These exercises are highly recommended during pregnancy and after childbirth to facilitate healing, and they could also help you achieve orgasm more easily and avoid urinary incontinence problems. (To learn more about Kegel exercises
And finally, the Dalia can also be used to perform internal massages during pelvic rehabilitation treatments following surgery, an illness or during pregnancy. (We recommend consulting a doctor or a physiotherapist specialized in pelvic health, if you think you have tensions in this region.) In addition, these internal massages could also help you decrease your menstrual pain.

Is it breakable? Yes, but no!

2. Is it breakable?

After understanding the purpose of our Dalia, because it is made of porcelain, people often ask us if it is breakable. The answer is yes, but no ... porcelain is actually extremely resistant in use (it is known for its great mechanical strength), so have no fear during orgasm! However, porcelain is more fragile to shocks, meaning that if you drop it on the floor or make it go from your freezer to boiling water, it could break. That's why we created our OOPS policy: a 5 year warranty that comes automatically with our porcelain products! If you unintentionally break your product, take a picture of the broken part and contact us at hello@desirables.ca.

3. Is it cold?

Not really, because porcelain usually takes the room temperature. So it will be a little cooler than your body, but that's all, a bit like wood. This gives an interesting advantage to porcelain: it can be easily warmed (in your hands or under water) or cooled (under water). So, if you feel more adventurous, do not hesitate! Many of our customers and professional critics adore this slight difference in temperature.

4. Why did you choose porcelain?

Isabelle Deslauriers, founder of Désirables, chose to create a porcelain dildo for several reasons. For starters, plastic was not a viable option for personal aesthetics reasons, but also for the non-renewable aspect of it and because this material may contain toxic components. Medical grade silicone has been considered, however this material isn't compatible with all types of lubricants and can lose its quality over time. On the other hand, porcelain has many advantages compared to other materials and gives a more luxurious and timeless-elegant appearance to the product. Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of the different advantages of porcelain:

• Hypo alergenic
• Phthalate free
• Highly resistant in use
• Non-porous, once it's fired in the oven porcelain becomes vitrified and nothing can degrade it or penetrate it
• Made of natural materials
• Extremely durable, it can last hundreds of years
• Easy to produce, we were able to find talented ceramists in Montreal's area

5. Is the Dalia empty?

Yes, about 20% to 25% of the Dalia is empty, this comes from the manufacturing technique we use to make the product. Our ceramist, Louise Bousquet, uses the technique originating from Limoges in France, which allows us to have a porcelain of very high quality. The walls, however, have a considerable thickness which makes the product extremely resistant.

 Relax, explore, take your time

6. Does it vibrate?

Nope, all our products are vibration free! With the Dalia, we want our clients to take time for themselves, to explore their sexuality without pressure and to connect with themselves or their partner. Furthermore, trough our research, we realized that for G spot stimulation pressure seems more effective than vibrations.
